Aviemore swim benefits CanTeen

Cold water, cramps and low lake levels were not enough to stop Connor Bryant from completing his 17km swim down Lake Aviemore for CanTeen last Saturday.

Connor's mother, Juliet, said the swim took the predicted six hours in fine weather, and was likely to raise about $3000 once all the pledged money had been collected.

A lake level "well below [Meridian's] minimum operating levels" meant the attempt started late due to the support crew's difficulty in accessing the shoreline with their boat.

Connor was picked up by the boat once a GPS unit confirmed he had swum the designated distance, as the choppy nature of the water on the last part of the swim pushed him towards the wrong shoreline.

Mrs Bryant believed he had swum further than the 17km, as he often swam off course.

Connor remained confident and cheerful throughout the swim, shaking off cramps which began after 6km, Mrs Bryant said.
