Boys banned over threat, abuse

Two boys have been banned from the Waitaki Aquatic Centre after threatening another pool user and abusing staff yesterday.

Police were called to the Oamaru pool yesterday afternoon, after two boys, aged 10 and 11, made a threat towards another youth, and one of the two offending youths allegedly pulled out a toy pistol.

When the manager and a staff member asked the boys to leave, they faced a tirade of verbal abuse, police said.

Centre manager Matthew Lanyon was hit with a newspaper, and a burger was thrown at another staff member.

The boys were known to police. They would be issued with trespass notices and referred to Youth Aid.

That behaviour would not be tolerated, Mr Lanyon said.
