And turning 100 is a lot like getting a hole in one.
"A hole in one is what everyone aspires to," she said.
"But the thing with a hole in one is, you’ve got to hit the length for it to go in the hole, you’ve got to hit it a bit straight and then it’s in the lap of the gods.
"I’ve seen lots of people miss a hole in one by [not] much."
And for Mrs Kyle, today is her hole in one, as she celebrates her 100th birthday.
She met the ladies from Lower Waitaki Golf Club for lunch at the Oamaru Club yesterday and welcomes two more friends today to mark the occasion.
Keeping the celebrations going, a family function is planned for tomorrow.
She grew up in Millerton on the West Coast and has been in Oamaru "50-odd years".
She married her husband Des in 1947 in Westport. He died 18 years ago.
An engineer by trade, he worked on the construction of the Haast Road for six years.
Mrs Kyle was a primary school teacher and taught in Invercargill, Westport and at the now closed Casa Nova Primary School in Oamaru.
Together they had two children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Margaret and Des both joined the Lower Waitaki Golf Club when it was formed in 1976.
That was when her love affair with the sport began.
"One lot of holidays, we had a fortnight of holidays, my husband would be working and I would go out and play 18 holes on my own, I just love the game.
"When I gave up teaching, I continued with golf and I loved it, I just loved it.
"I played it until I was over 90.
"Every game of golf I played, I tried my best."
