Burglars steal from golf clubs

Burglars did a round of Waitaki Valley and South Canterbury golf clubs at the weekend, but not to play.

Instead, they broke into six golf clubs, with the aim of taking cash, Oamaru police Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy said yesterday.

It appears the break-ins took place on Sunday night, the Waitaki Valley ones being reported to police from Monday morning.

In the valley, the Kurow, Otematata and Omarama Golf Clubs were broken into.

The Kurow office was targeted but nothing was taken.

The green fees box was broken open and cash taken at Otematata, and investigations were continuing at Omarama to see what was taken.

In South Canterbury, the clubs hit were Tekapo, Waimate and St Andrews, where green fees were also taken.

Cost of damage to the clubs was expected to be several hundred dollars.

Police believe all the break-ins were connected.
