A Facebook page designed to identify so-called police ''snitches'' in Oamaru has been brought to the attention of police.
The Oamaru Snitch Page went online on March 3, and urged people to post names of people who may have provided police with information on criminal activity in the town.
The page included photographs and slogans such as ''snitches get snitches'', and ''snitches are a dying breed'' above a picture of two guns.
Although the police were made aware of the page on Wednesday, Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy said so far no complaints had been made.
''Police will act on any matters which are unlawful, however. We encourage anyone who is concerned about a particular social media page to report it to the administrators of that social media site.
''As in any situation, if a person has concerns about their own safety or feels threatened, they should always contact police.''
