Fire doused after kiln catches alight in Oamaru

Fire crews from Weston and Oamaru put out a fire after a kiln caught alight at building supplier Great Southern this morning.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said one kiln was ablaze at the premises in Maudes Rd this morning, but four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using high pressure hoses were able to quickly deal with the blaze.

About half an hour later, the Waimate volunteer crew was called to a rubbish fire outside a Betten St property, but crews were also able to quickly extinguish the flames, the spokesman said.
