Oamaru artist Kit MacGregor, pictured with two of his paintings, is hoping to raise sufficient funds to accompany two other paintings to an exhibition at the Angora Art Gallery in New York next year.

A silent auction of some of his works will be held at the Whisky Gallery, in the Loan and Merc building, at 10am tomorrow.

MacGregor was awarded the Artzone Art Award in 1999, was second in the 2007 Dunedin Art Awards and gained a merit in the 2011 North Otago Art Awards.

The New York exhibition opens on April 24, and will feature a selection of paintings from Devonport's Flagstaff Gallery.

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
