Nelson and Dawn Price (both 89) celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends in Oamaru at the weekend.

The couple, who live at the Iona Home and Hospital, were married in Christchurch on May 6, 1946, after meeting while working at a cinema in Christchurch.

"We were in love. I was a projectionist there and my wife was an usher,'' Mr Price said.

"I love my Dawn. I don't think it would be possible for another man to love Dawn as much as I do.''

The two worked as a team and Mrs Price always supported his goals, he said.

"She's always helped me with everything I've done in my life. If I wanted to have a go at something, she'd help me.''

Mrs Price described her husband as a hard worker.

"He always wanted to do things for me and he did.''

The couple moved from Christchurch to Enfield in the early years of their marriage.

They have seven children and 72 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
