Work-offer warning

Police are warning Oamaru residents to be wary of whom they let on their properties to work, after receiving reports of a known criminal offering his services as a window cleaner.

Community Constable Bruce Dow said police had received reports from the North End and South Hill of young men - at least one of whom was known to police - visiting properties offering to clean windows. Const Dow said the men were arriving to work with no equipment.

It was likely they were assessing properties with a view to burgling them, he said.

''Our advice is that unless the person is from a reputable business with a business card and with contact details and a sign-written vehicle, then stay well clear of agreeing to have your windows cleaned by random off-the-street individuals,'' Const Dow said.
