Ambulance fund given boost by lodge

St John's bid for a new four-wheel-drive ambulance will be given a boost courtesy of a $6000 gift from the Wanaka Masonic Lodge on Monday.

The lodge has given more than $18,000 to community groups and organisations during the year from funds raised through a private car-parking scheme, lodge spokesman Gordon Girvan said.

The community-funded St John wants to raise $200,000 to replace its 15-year-old Chevrolet ambulance with a 4WD Mercedes-Benz.

It is hoped to have the new ambulance in time for the 2010 winter.
