Wanaka swimmers' simmering frustrations about delays in confirming a new aquatic centre site threatened to boil over at the Wanaka Pool Committee annual meeting on Monday night.
Wanaka's three Queenstown Lakes District councillors came under fire from members of the public upset by the deferral of the pool project while the council considers the fate of other sports facilities and the Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park.
Wanaka Aquatic Centre working party chairman Leigh Stock said he was frustrated council staff had not finished reports on co-locating the pool with an indoor stadium, closing the camping ground and creating a sports hub at the showgrounds.
"Because there is outstanding information, it is very hard for the aquatic working party to look at the due diligence . . . We are in limbo at this stage," he said.
The aquatic centre working party had already completed its brief, identifying Kelly's Flat as its preferred pool site, but other working parties have now come up with other options.
However, the aquatic centre working party could not look at those sites because information was not available, Mr Stock said.
Dale Gibb, whose children swim four times a week, said the delays were "ridiculous".
Deputy mayor John S. Wilson said the sports facilities working party had identified urgent needs and its proposal had received 330 public submissions.
The most important thing was to get as many affordable facilities as possible, he said.
