A new bridge across the Cardrona River will be named in memory of John Pawson, one of the founders of the Upper Clutha Tracks Trust.
The new bridge, near the mouth of the Cardrona River's confluence with the Clutha River, is the latest addition to an ever-expanding network of trails linking Upper Clutha townships.
Mr Pawson was founding chairman of the trust.
The respected community figure, farmer and businessman died in a climbing accident on Mt Aspiring last November.
The new 15m bridge is part of a planned 5km track along the true right of the Clutha River beneath the Halliday Bluffs.
It links with the Rekos Conservation Area, near Luggate.
A contract for the section of track linking Albert Town and Luggate is up for tender from the Department of Conservation.
