Bull terrier destroyed

The dog caught attacking sheep on an Albert Town property on Monday - the same dog believed to be responsible for three other attacks on the same mob in the past few months - has been put down.

Riverrun stock manager Alistair McLeod had become increasingly frustrated by the repeat attacks in which a large number of ewes and lambs had been mauled or killed, each time by being bitten about the head.

After catching a dog in the act of killing lambs this week, Mr McLeod phoned police, who seized the animal and handed it over to Lakes Environmental.

Following an investigation into the incident, Lakes Environmental regulatory and enforcement team leader Anthony Hall confirmed the dog was destroyed yesterday morning with the consent of its owner.

"We're happy that hopefully that's the end of the saga," Mr Hall said.

The animal was registered as a Staffordshire bull terrier and lived near the Riverrun paddocks.
