It is not yet spring, but preparations are already under way for the sixth annual Shotover Jet Christmas Spectacular - and organisers are calling for anyone interested in performing to sign up.

The concert has grown to become the biggest annual showcase of Wakatipu talent.

Last year, it boasted a cast of more than 150 singers, dancers and musicians performing everything from classic Christmas carols to the latest top-10 singles.

Show director Simon Green said there was a wealth of talent in the Wakatipu region and he wanted to give as many people as possible the chance to perform.

"We've developed a formula that allows for a much larger cast and which also makes it easier for people to get involved.

"We know it's a busy time of year, so we work hard to minimise people's rehearsal time while at the same time making sure we deliver an exceptional show," Mr Green said.

Organisers are looking for a core cast of soloist and ensemble singers - ideally, people who can dance, a children's ensemble, dedicated dancers, including the Remarkable Men's Ballet and a selection of independent performance groups such as choirs, dance troupes, cultural performance groups and musical theatre/cabaret entertainers.

This year's theme was "Come Together", which, according to producer Jan Maxwell, really was what the concert had always been about.

"Each year, the concert not only brings together a cast and production team of over 200 people and an audience of over 1600 on the day. But, through other events such as the Shotover Jet Local's Day, the hoamz wishing trees and the Remarkables Park town centre family fun day, we are able to touch hundreds more throughout the community with a little bit of Christmas spirit," she said.
