Creating a larger car park for airport staff

A 180-bay car park for Queenstown Airport staff is being built on 6500sq m of vacant land off Lucas Pl, Frankton.

The car park will replace the 115-bay staff car park which was congested due to additional staff servicing extra flights, airport corporate general manager Karen Castiglione said.

The existing staff car park will become an overflow for the 326-bay public car park.

Mrs Castiglione said construction of the car park began two weeks ago and was expected to be finished in three to four weeks.

Access would be via a new turn-off at the roundabout, with islands, lighting and rails installed on the road for pedestrian safety.

The project was co-ordinated with the neighbouring St John Wakatipu ambulance service and the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
