Otago Volts cricket coach Mike Hesson is confident his one-day squad can make amends for a lacklustre twenty/20 season when it fronts up on home turf versus the Wellington Firebirds in Alexandra on Sunday and the Canterbury Wizards in Queenstown on Wednesday.
Hesson promises a mixture of youth and guile when the team plays at the Queenstown Events Centre (QEC) in the second round of the domestic 50-over championship.
"This is a chance to put it right in the one day competition after the twenty/20 disappointment. We've got a very good side on paper but it's a matter of putting in the performance on the day."
Canterbury will have a "pretty settled line-up", including the return of right-arm medium fast bowler and Black Cap Hamish Bennett.
The Volts squad for the matches features the exciting Michael Bracewell.
"Michael has been a promising player for some time now and on the back of his 156 not out in the trial match has forced his way into the side," Hesson said.
He also confirmed that English import Darren Stevens has stayed in the country and will be available for selection following the fourth round.
The Volts team for matches against Wellington in Alexandra on Sunday and Canterbury in Queenstown on Wednesday is Craig Cumming (captain), Nick Beard, Derek de Boorder, Michael Bracewell, Darren Broom, Neil Broom, Ian Butler, Nathan McCullum, James McMillan, Warren McSkimming, Aaron Redmond, Neil Wagner and Sam Wells "You've got two very good sides - it'll be a great event," Hesson said.
"The guys love playing in Queenstown and [QEC groundsman] Phil McGrory and his staff have done a great job, I hope the supporters get in behind it," Hesson said.
