The 2010 Bhangra night, organised by Mantra Restaurant, went off without a hitch on Saturday night.

Event organiser and restaurant owner Shammi Sandhu said about 220 people attended the event at the Athenaeum Hall in Arrowtown - the majority dressed in the "Bollywood" theme.

"It was wonderful. The people made such a great effort to dress up.

"The Bhangra Boys [from Auckland] just made them tap their feet and dance and the DJ and singer were amazing.

"It was just phenomenal and we're just so pleased.

"We are so grateful and so thankful to the community ... who have just supported what we do and how we do it. Without them, we are nothing.

"I'm so overwhelmed and humbled."

Mrs Sandhu said the decision was made to close Mantra's Arrowtown restaurant yesterday so everyone could enjoy a well-earned break and rest their aching feet and knees - caused by non-stop dancing.

No decision had been made yet as to whether the Bhangra night would be back in 2011, she said.
