Deputy CEO steps up in the meantime

The deputy chief executive of the Queenstown Lakes District Council, Stewart Burns, would assume the role of acting chief executive from Saturday, Mayor Vanessa van Uden announced yesterday.

"This arrangement will remain in place until such time as a new chief executive is in place," she said.

"The council had committed to making the interim period as seamless as possible. It will be very much business as usual at council."

The date was previously announced by outgoing chief executive Debra Lawson as her last day with the authority.

The council intended to be able to offer the post to its preferred candidate by the end of July.
