Sergeant Blair Duffy, of Queenstown, takes notes on an incident in which an old Subaru car driven by a 17-year-old Queenstown youth rolled about 1km up Coronet Peak Rd yesterday.

Emergency services were alerted at 11.45am, but the driver got out of the car unaided. He was checked by St John ambulance officers and found to be uninjured.

Constable Aaron Redaelli, of Queenstown, said it appeared the youth drove into grit on the left-hand side of the road and lost control of his vehicle. The car hit the ditch, which tipped it on its side.

Const Redaelli said speed might have been involved. A decision on charges would be made later.

No other vehicles were involved.

The driver arranged for the car to be towed away.
