The film crew which has been shooting around the Wakatipu and in central Queenstown called it a wrap last Thursday.

Jane Campion and Garth Davis' crime-mystery mini-series Top of the Lake was shot at locations around the Wakatipu before the Ballarat St car park was used as a base to film in central Queenstown.

The series investigated the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old named Tui and captured the ensuing drama when a detective met the girl's drug-lord father.

Film Queenstown manager Kevin Jennings said, from his perspective, it had been a "fantastic" production which the community had "got behind and supported".

And for that support the production's crew spent large amounts of money in the resort during their time here, which Mr Jennings said was great "especially throughout this quiet period".

"It's shot in its entirety here, which is unique," he said.

"Often, you get pieces of feature films.

"This one is start to finish."

A media spokesman for Top of the Lake could not be contacted.
