An Englishman who went on a smashing spree in Queenstown, breaking into three vehicles and an occupied hotel unit, was on Monday told to pay $8378.64.
Benjamin Simon Hazell (23) yesterday reappeared before Judge Kevin Phillips in relation to his alcohol-fuelled actions in the early hours of August 17.
After reaching Frankton Rd following a night drinking in town, Hazell damaged four cars, two of them using a fire extinguisher.
Continuing to wield the fire extinguisher, he broke down the door of a unit occupied by a Spanish couple, and took possession of three knives before leaving, and then smashed his way into another vehicle before being arrested.
On the charge of unlawfully interfering with a Subaru Legacy belonging to Ace Tourist Rentals, he was convicted and fined $500, court costs $132.89.
Sentences on the other convictions: Entering a building with intent to commit a crime, fined $1500, court costs $132.89, reparation $2489.67, intentionally damaging a Mitsubishi belonging to Abe Yasuko, fined $500, court costs $132.89, reparation $468.32, intentionally damaging a Subaru Legacy belonging to Ace Tourist Rentals, fined $500, court costs $132.89, intentionally damaging a Toyota belonging to Motoka Rentals, fined $500, court costs $132.89, intentionally damaging a Toyota belonging to Avis Rentals, fined $500, court costs $132.89, reparation $632.31, possessing a knife in a public place, convicted and discharged.
He paid a total of $8378.64 on the charges, each of which held a month in prison as default penalty for not paying immediately.
