Fire after pot left cooking

Emergency services were called to a kitchen fire at a Lake Hawea house on Tuesday night.

Lake Hawea fire brigade members extinguished the fire, which appeared to have started after a small pot was left cooking unattended on the oven range top, fire chief Doug Brenssell said.

A 26-year-old woman was helped by paramedics at the house and taken by ambulance for further treatment at the Wanaka Medical Centre.

The woman did not require medical treatment because of the fire but had an existing accident-related injury, which was aggravated during the incident.

The fire did not cause extensive damage to the house and was extinguished quickly, Mr Brenssell said.
