About 50 football players attended the first Festival of Females in Football in Queenstown yesterday.

Queenstown Rovers senior women's coach Darren Rewi said players aged between 6 and 38 from Cromwell, Alexandra and Queenstown took part in the event.

"It was a good turnout, especially for the first one. I'm hoping to have more. It was a lot of fun," he said.

The festival was part of the New Zealand Football's nationwide Females in Football week.

The free festival included coaching sessions and tips on warm-ups, stretches and core strength.

It finished with a fun, social football game, he said.

Queenstown Rovers women's team has 25 players, who train at the Queenstown Events Centre every Monday from 7pm to 9pm.
