About 150 men and 30 women are needed to volunteer to dress in 1862 clothes and play in the re-enactment of the discovery of gold in the Arrow River and the rapid development of the settlement which became Arrowtown.
People are needed to play miners, Chinese miners, merchants and wives, who will be seen prospecting, mining, cooking, playing cards, drinking, dancing, stealing and fighting, alongside horses, carriages, dancing girls, a miners' band and a saloon.
Arrowtown resident Peter Doyle will narrate and music will be live, as well as pre-recorded.
The re-enactment will be staged on the north bank of the Arrow River on October 20 from 1.45pm to 2.45pm. Spectators can watch free on the south bank.
Ms Keating said yesterday no acting experience was necessary and there were no lines or particular movements to learn.
Costumes and props will be provided.
Ms Keating will take registrations for performers in Jonesy's Cafe, Arrowtown, tonight at 7pm. Volunteers can also register by emailing Julie Hughes at julie@arrowevents.co.nz.
Arrowtown: 150 Years of Gold officially runs from October 19-22.
