Singer-songwriter Chris Hurn (21), of Lower Hutt, played in bands such as Play it Strange 2007 winners the Lunch Box Boys, a 1960s-style indie-pop band.
He developed a love of folk music and went solo in late 2009.
His first album, titled Too Busy Dreamin', on Monkey Records, is based on the acoustic guitar and features Hurn playing all instruments, as well as mixing and producing.
The LP was recorded in 2010 in his Lower Hutt home studio and mastered by Dave Cooley (Serge Gainsbourg, Polyphonic Spree, Opensouls) in Los Angeles.
The suitably summery music video for the first single from the album, Whatcha Got, has also been released, ahead of his 13-date national tour.
