Jazz orchestra reschedules

The weather gods were unkind when the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra was set to play in the Queenstown Gardens on Sunday, but the only big band in Central Otago and Southland says it is having another go.

The 18-strong orchestra will now play at the band rotunda of the gardens on Sunday, April 1, at 2pm.

The community is invited by the orchestra to "bring a seat, some food and drink and enjoy an afternoon of big band jazz" - again, weather permitting.

Fly Me to the Moon, Sweet Georgia Brown, All of Me, Vine Street Rumble, Chattanooga Choo Choo and many more classic jazz and swing numbers from the orchestra's repertoire of more than 30 American and Latin American hits are likely to be played.

The concert will feature Queenstown jazz singer and new band member Hine Marchand.

The orchestra made its public debut on October 21 last year as part of Queenstown JazzFest.

Members are continuing to practise for their musical contribution to this year's Anzac Day ceremony.
