A Queenstown man will appear in court on Monday on charges relating to a serious assault in a resort night club which has left a man comatose in Dunedin Hospital.
Queenstown police yesterday arrested a 40-year-old Queenstown man following a serious assault which occurred in a night club in the town last weekend.
The man has been charged with wounding with reckless disregard causing grievous bodily harm. He is also charged with common assault under the Crimes Act in relation to an assault on a friend of the victim who was in the bar at the time.
Police hoped to speak with victim Jordan Kees Sinke (26) when he was well enough.
Detective Matt Jones, of Queenstown, said in a statement the man had been given strict court-imposed bail conditions to appear in the Queenstown District Court.
The arrest followed a week-long investigation into the assault. Police gathered information from about a dozen witnesses who had been in the Subculture night club.
The incident happened between patrons at about 3am last Saturday.
Det Jones said while there were still some inquiries to be completed, police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance.
''Although an arrest has been and made police have spoken to a number of people, police would still like to hear from anyone else who either witnessed the incident or has information about it.
''Anyone with any information can contact Queenstown police on 441 1600 or call police anonymously on the Crimestoppers line, 0800 555 111.''
