Lake Hawea artists and business owners have banded together to put their township "on the map" as a visitor destination.

A group of community-minded business owners and artists have produced a visitor information map for the twin townships of Lake Hawea and Hawea Flat to showcase the area's attractions.

Arriving just in time for the post-Christmas rush, the visitor information map details about 50 of the town's businesses, services, and tourist activities.

Lake Hawea potter Diana Turnbull-Anderson provided the initial inspiration to get "the ball rolling" on a map to co-ordinate an artists' trail, with business owners from the tight-knit communities subsequently coming on board.

Project co-ordinator Liz Matheson said the map featured a variety of activities, services, and attractions.

"From gardeners to the general store, artists to automotive services, and accommodation providers to hairdressers, we've got it all here in Hawea," she said.

The group had come together to promote Hawea as a destination in its own right, Mrs Turnbull-Anderson said.

The group started the project in October and to have the finished product arrive on Christmas Eve was fantastic, Mrs Matheson said.

"We're literally on the map now," she said.
