About 120 revellers dressed in their finest filled the Glenorchy Hall for the Glenorchy School midwinter ball on Saturday night.

The ball, organised by the school Parents, Teachers and Friends' Association, is one of the highlights of the Glenorchy social calendar and raises funds for Glenorchy School.

Association committee member Tara Harrison said more than $5000 was raised.

About 100 tickets were presold.

"It is always well supported by the community and people come from Queenstown for the night. It's a good fundraiser for the school," she said.

The money will go towards new books for the school library.

Businesses, including Shotover Jet and Heliworks, donated prizes for a draw.

Christchurch band the Elevators played into the early hours.
