Paraglider injured near Wanaka

A 65-year-old paraglider will be under observation overnight after sustaining a head injury while paragliding near Wanaka.

Senior Sergeant James Ure said the man was paragliding at the same time as a group of paragliders in the area, including his son.

The man's son noticed his father had "come to difficulty" after the father crashed into Mont Roy, Snr Sgt Ure said.

Wanaka police and the alpine rescue team extracted the man by helicopter.

The son was also picked up shortly afterwards.
