A record number of 1,047,044 scheduled passengers travelled through the Queenstown Airport in the past year ending June 30.

Statistics from the Queenstown Airport board showed international passengers were up by 21% and domestic by 11.6%, which increased commercial revenue by 11.5%.

Queenstown Airport board chairman John Gilks said most retailers experienced good growth and demand.

The double-digit passenger numbers meant the airport's net profit was $5.2 million, 13.3% up from last year.

Seat capacity in and out of the resort increased by 24.8% to 1,365,000.

The board announced yesterday it would pay its shareholders, the Queenstown Lakes District Council (75.1%) and Auckland International Airport (24.9%), a final dividend of $2.6 million.

Mr Gilks said the airport's financial performance results were due in part its growth, which had included infrastructure projects such as the departure lounge.
