Petty thefts on rise

Skifield visitors are being warned to keep a watch on belongings after an increased incidence of petty theft.

A Wanaka police station spokeswoman said numerous items had been reported stolen, with most of the reported thefts being confined to Cardrona Alpine Resort.

Items reported stolen included cameras, snowboards and other skiing equipment, such as clothing and protective gear.

An increase in reported petty theft was an annual winter occurrence as visitors flocked to busy skifields, she said.
