Two boxes were set on fire before midnight on Thursday night and another two fires were put out late on Friday night by the Wanaka Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Friday night's fires occurred shortly after contractors had finished restoring phone and internet services to Wanaka's central business district, following Thursday's night's fires outside Thunderbikes and the Otago Daily Times, on Brownston St.
Friday's fires on the corner of Helwick and Anderson Rd, and on Kings Dr, cut phone and internet connections to dozens of businesses and residences near the Anderson Rd industrial area.
Many connections have been down all day and full service not expected to be restored until Sunday or Monday.
Downer EDI Engineering contractors could not move in immediately on Friday to begin repairing the lines because fire safety inspectors were checking the boxes.
The contractors declined to talk to the media but when visited on site today it was clear they were frustrated and disappointed with the situation they faced.
They were prepared for another long day restoring services, with tents erected around the sites to shelter the workers from drizzle as they worked into the evening.
Const Melanie Twyman of Wanaka said enquiries were continuing, security measures had been put in place around other telecommunication boxes and police would be vigilant tonight.
Witnesses are being sought.
Telecommunications company Chorus owns the plant that has been destroyed by the fires. Their media spokesman Robin Kelly could not be contacted for comment today.
