Precarious position for family car

A mechanical failure caused this vehicle to roll off the Cardrona Alpine Resort access road yesterday, but a door which had been left open wedged into the snow, prevented the car from tumbling down the steep slope.

Cardrona sales and marketing manager Nadia Ellis said the car was parked on the side of the road at the base of the Valley View chairlift and its occupants, a family, had got out after putting the car in park and applying the handbrake.

Cardrona staff used a loader to tow out the vehicle, which was not damaged aside from minor adjustments needed on the door.
