Ten religious crosses and 10 square crosses fired the imaginations of aspiring and professional artists, along with pupils, and their multimedia creations will be on public display before the event begins.
Traditional landscapes, portraits, abstracts, ceramic works, sculptures and even recycled road signs were contributed by popular artists, including Hope Gibbons, Alan Waters, Ivan Clarke, Simon Morrison-Deaker, Nigel Wilson, Rachael Errington and Joanna Braithwaite.
The event will begin on Saturday with a public viewing in the Queenstown Room on the fifth floor of the Rydges hotel on Lake Esplanade from 2pm to 4pm. Admission will be by gold coin donation.
Doors will open for the live and silent art auctions in the same room at 6.30pm and live bidding will start at 7.30pm.
School board member Phil Wilson will be the auctioneer and reserve prices range from $5 to $6000.
Admission to the auction will cost $15 a person and will include a glass of bubbles and canapes.
"It's a good place to buy a bargain from sought-after artists," auction co-ordinator Maria Thomson, of Queenstown, said.
"There's something for everyone."
