Rapley (20) last weekend arrived home from Vail, Colorado, where she spent the New Zealand summer training and racing, managing to become third-placed junior and 11th overall in the super G event at the United States Nationals in April.
"It was a good season," she said.
"I didn't achieve all of my goals but got some good results ... I had some really good runs in the ski races, but not so good overall. My speed was good, but not the consistency, so I'm hoping to progress on that this winter season."
Rapley, who hopes to compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, managed to meet her goals of improving satisfactorily in the slalom and super G events, but said she still had to work on her G class races this season.
"I guess if I had achieved all of my goals, my goals would not have been set high enough, so at least I know that I am aiming for the best."
She says it is good to be home, which also means coming back to the real world.
"It's back to reality, I guess, as I have to work while I'm home. I do miss my family and friends while I'm away, but I miss my friends in Colorado too, so I get the best of both worlds."
So far, she had no plans as to which team she will train with this season, but said she aimed to start skiing in mid-June, compete in the Winter Games and nationals and would be doing a lot of training at Coronet Peak.
On top of her two hours a day of pre-season training, she is also finding time to study psychology and biology extramurally as well as working as a nanny.
"When I start training, I will reduce my work hours. I will have a big workload with my degree, but it's good to have something to take your mind off skiing, and getting a degree is important."
