Tracks are being made towards a new Wakatipu high school and other planned developments.

One of the main link roads, already named Red Oaks Dr, within Remarkables Park, is under construction, although the high school is not expected to open until at least 2017.

Last year, the Otago Daily Times reported a new school for about 1500 pupils would be built on 8ha of land the Ministry of Education had bought.

Remarkables Park director Alastair Porter said the new road would service the relocated high school, provide access to new residential sections and become the eastern boundary to the Remarkables Park town centre - which is doubling in size.

''It extends the road to the point where ... the next road extension on the end of that road will take us down to the riverside, where we're going to establish the jet ferry terminal.''

In November last year, Southern Discoveries Ltd, Real Journeys Ltd and Remarkables Jet Ltd entered into a partnership to purchase the O'Regan's and St Omers wharves, formerly owned by Ngai Tahu Property Ltd.

Mr Porter said the ferry terminal was the next link in the road development and it was hoped the jet ferries would be running by Christmas next year.

The road would go down to the jet ferry terminal, which was designed to link up to the wharves in Queenstown.

After the wharves were purchased, the Otago Daily Times reported a waterfront ''resort village'' was planned which would be serviced by small jet ferries which would travel between Remarkables Park and the O'Regan's and St Omers wharves.

A Zig Zag Zoo child-care centre, the second for the Wakatipu, will open at Remarkables Park on July 1.
