St John calls for volunteer ambulance officers

St John Queenstown has put out the call for volunteer paramedics, promising a demanding but rewarding experience that could lead to a new career.

St John Queenstown team manager Alana Reid said it was looking for people with skills and motivation to become volunteer ambulance officers.

"In return for the time you invest in St John, St John offers a nationally recognised qualification, training and you will become part of the St John team gaining skills, friendship and a sense of community.

"St John provides free training, uniform and comprehensive support. If you think you have what it takes to become a volunteer ambulance officer, St John want to hear from you."

Ms Reid said volunteering could be begin a career.

"Many people start volunteering for St John, thinking all they want to do is give something back to the community, or are seeking a new challenge.

"However, often it leads to new career, leading to full-time employment.

"Six years ago, I thought I could be a volunteer ambulance officer, I have the time. Now, I am working fulltime in a job I thoroughly enjoy," she said.
