Tests may provide solution

Deep-water testing may provide a solution to an invasive algal bloom which continues to affect water supplies to some Wanaka residents.

Queenstown Lakes District Council water operations manager Gerry Essenberg said water quality tests had been carried out at depths "far greater" than the Wanaka water supply's existing intake sites.

He told the Wanaka Community Board the results of the tests would be tabled at the QLDC utilities meeting in Queenstown on Tuesday.

An invasive algal bloom has contaminated water supplies, disrupted pressure, and blocked filters to Wanaka households since September last year and no solution has been found to date.

One way could be to extend the intake pipes into the lake.
