Four Taiwanese tourists were fortunate to escape injury after their rented camper van crashed and overturned on the Queenstown-Glenorchy road, near Wilson Bay, yesterday morning.

Senior Constable Terry Erceg, of Queenstown, is pictured inspecting the crashed van. Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown, said the four were travelling towards Queenstown about 8.30am when the 28-year-old male driver lost control and drove into a ditch on the left-hand side.

He then over-corrected, causing the van to tip over and spin several times.

The driver, who suffered minor scratches to one arm, would be charged with careless driving.

The four were ''very lucky'' to have avoided injury, Sgt Newell said. The crash was witnessed by another driver, who called emergency services.
