Appeal after resort assault

Police are seeking witnesses to an assault after a man was punched while trying to intervene in an early morning argument on Camp St, Queenstown, about 1.30am on Sunday.

A man approached an arguing couple to check on them and was punched in the face by the man who was arguing with his partner, causing him to fall to the ground. Police intend to check CCTV footage of the area.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, asked anyone who saw the incident to contact police.

A suspected drink driver was stopped by officers operating a checkpoint on Frankton Rd early on Sunday morning.

Officers stopped a 37-year-old woman, who allegedly refused to give a blood sample, tried to flee and resisted officers.

She was charged and is due in court this week.

Sgt Enoka said Queenstown police were "still not happy'' with the number of people officers have been catching drink-driving.

"We are picking them up all the time.

"Save some money for that bus or taxi and if you are out with friends, make sure you are keeping your mates safe.''
