Mitre 10 Mega Queenstown has decided to celebrate their 10th birthday by giving the community a gift.

The milestone was officially marked at the Brookes Rd store earlier this month, during which Women’s Shed Queenstown founder Alex van Dam and Hannah Covington upped tools and built a playhouse, from materials supplied by Mitre 10, which will be donated to a deserving family, charity, club or organisation.

Van Dam says the finished product, which took the better part of two days to build, measures about 2.4m in length, including a little deck, and is about 1.4m wide.

"It’s a really good size for a kid, and it’s really well built.

"It was a really fun build to be involved in, and always nice to do something for the community."

Mitre 10 Mega Queenstown marketing and promo manager Toni Boatwright says they’re now seeking nominations from the community to find a new home for the playhouse, which is "built to last".

People can nominate themselves, or someone else they think is deserving, by filling out an online form — available via shorturl.at/pyLzd — by December 10.

"We have a small committee that will read all the applications and choose the best recipient from that," Boatwright says, noting the criteria’s "quite open — you’ve just got to explain why they’re deserving".

"It can be a charity, a family, or an organisation that wants to use it for fundraising purposes."

Boatwright says the recipient will be announced on December 15.
