REPORT: PAUL TAYLOR

About 900 people attended the fourth annual Natsu Matsurui Japanese summer festival in Queenstown on Saturday.

They included 6-year-old Queenstown Primary School pupils (from left) Rina Nakazawa, Anju Okajima and Milley Ichihara, wearing traditional Japanese kimonos.

Taeko Mori, committee member of organising group Queenstown Japanese Family Centre, said the "fantastic" event brought about $5000 in donations.

Once expenses are deducted, the profits will be used to buy books from Japan for the family centre.
