Goodies galore

Salvation Army community worker Blair McKenzie with the now-overflowing Salvation Army food bank following last Wednesday night's Wakatipu Lions' annual Christmas food bank drive.

Mr McKenzie said the response of Frankton and Kelvin Heights residents "was just amazing", with Wakatipu Lions members collecting non-perishable food while a fire engine, ambulance and police car sounded their sirens.

He said two vans and a station wagon were needed to cart the Christmas goodies to the food bank, which was now "stocked up and there for the community going into 2012".
