A Brazilian Queenstown resident says owning the resort’s sole women-only gym is a dream come true.
Carla de Nijs, who started in Queenstown as a cleaner 12 years ago, and her accountant husband Bjorn de Nijs, who is originally from the Netherlands, have bought Remarkable Women’s Health & Fitness.
The Remarkables Park gym was originally a Configure Express franchise.
Formerly a local Immigration New Zealand officer, Mrs de Nijs became a certified personal trainer when the office closed.
Until now she trained clients in her home gym, though she also has an online personal training and meal-planning business.
She said her new gym, which offers child-care seven days a week, was "a place where women can get out of their comfort zone and still feel comfortable".
She is hosting an open day this Saturday from 8am to 2pm.
