Power out in Queenstown; Vodafone down for many

A power outage in Queenstown is expected to affect some homes and businesses for a couple of hours.

The outage - the result of a fault - was affecting consumers in Gorge Rd, Hallenstein St, Hamilton Rd and the Queenstown industrial area, the Queenstown Lakes District Council said.

The fault was being repaired but power was not expected to be restored until 2.45pm.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone mobile network is either down or degraded across a large swathe of the southern South Island since about 10am.

The affected areas are: Mt Cook, Twizel, Wanaka, Albert Town, Glendhu Bay, Tarras, Clyde, Te Anau, Manapouri, Mt Prospect, Tokanui, Catlins South and Bishops Bay.
