Q’town parapenter airlifted to hospital

A  parapenter was flown to Dunedin Hospital  with "serious injuries" after crashing on the Crown Range last night.

St John Otago acting territory manager and paramedic Dianne Payne said the man was a Queenstown resident. The 29-year-old crashed into a hill on the Arrowtown side of the  Crown Range shortly after 8pm.

"He had a moderate lower back injury and serious leg injury."

Ms Payne, who treated him at the scene for about an hour, said  the Otago Regional rescue helicopter airlifted him directly  to Dunedin. She also confirmed he was flying solo at the time. Fire and police also attended the scene,  above the stretch of road known as the zig-zags.

In a separate incident, police, the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Brigade and St John responded to an accident in Arthurs Point shortly before 8pm. St John said a 50-year-old motorcyclist was treated at the scene for a  minor leg injury.
