Queenstown speed limit consultation extended

Consultation on proposed changes to speed limits in the Queenstown Lakes District has been extended.

Changes to the process have also been made following public feedback, the council said in a media release.

The new Speed Limit Bylaw 2019 would reduce several speed limits across the district, and make some temporary reductions permanent.

In the release, council communications manager Naell Crosby-Roe said the extended timeframe was ``in response to public feedback to date that has prompted us to review both the
supporting information available and the level of detail in the submission process''.

Background information has been clarified, and the online submission form has been changed to allow people to share their views to individual speed limit proposals, rather than
for the entire group of proposed changes.

``All submissions made to date will still be considered however, all previous online submitters will receive an email with a link to the updated consultation material to consider whether to add to or alter their previous submission,'' Mr Crosby-Roe said.

Consultation began on March 11 and was due to finish today.

Consultation will now continue through to 5pm, May 13.

Two additional drop-in sessions are also planned for April 29 in Wanaka, and April 30 in Queenstown.

Following consultation, hearings will be held in Wanaka on June 5 and in Queenstown on June 6 for those wishing to speak in support of their submission.

Council will consider the outcome of the consultation, hearings and recommendations later
in June.
