Suspicious car fire spreads to vegetation

A car fire which set half a hectare of vegetation alight near Glenavy this evening is being investigated by police.

A Fire Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the fire,  reported to emergency services about 5.30pm, began in the bush near Ferry Rd.

No one was in the car at the time.

Glenavy Volunteer Fire Brigade was called, and two extra tankers from nearby stations were also called to back the fire crew up.

The blaze was extinguished about 6.20pm, and was being treated as suspicious.
