Milton sharemilkers Nathan and Deborah Erskine were last night named Otago sharemilkers of the year at the Otago Dairy Industry Awards in Balclutha.

The couple sharemilk 450 cows for Gary and Louise Sanders.

They attributed their win to being organised, planning and communicating.

Runners-up were Mark and Andrea Shore, from Clydevale, who sharemilk on Paul and Karen Tunnah's property.

The farm manager award went to Gareth Ferguson, who manages Tony and Sue McDonnell's Clarendon farm, and who has used the position to progress to next season being a 50:50 sharemilker on the property.

Runners-up were Craig and Laura Shanks, from Kaitangata, while Blake Korteweg, also from Kaitangata, was named trainee of the year.

All three winners will advance to the national finals in Rotorua on May 15.
